Physiotherapy is the assessment, management and optimisation of the musculoskeletal system. At Ahead Physiotherapy, our therapists assess joints, muscles and nerves through special tests that help identify the specific structure/s responsible for pain or dysfunction,
along with taking into account the history and behaviour of the symptoms, to help form an overall diagnosis. Other factors Physiotherapists will take into account include biomechanics, family history, medications, relevant scans/xrays, lifestyle and workplace risk
factors etc…

Once a diagnosis is formed, physiotherapists formulate a treatment plan based on the foundations of healing timeframes and factors such as the physiology of muscles strengthening and stretching. Treatment can include manual therapy (ie. hands-on techniques that might aim to loosen a stiff joint, for example), massage (to help elongate tight muscles), targeted exercises to help strengthen or stretch certain muscles, biomechanical correction, taping for support, orthotic prescription, education regarding posture, and many more.

Physiotherapists are constantly reassessing the progress of their patients and, where required, adjusting their treatment plans accordingly to ensure each patient receives appropriate care and advice, and ultimately improves as quickly as possible.
